Chounda builds focused software for doctors who get things done without the luxury of enterprise IT — SurgMD, the surgical logbook, and NexEMR Lite, offline hospital software, both live today.
The problem we solve
Across clinics and hospitals worldwide, skilled doctors practise without the digital infrastructure their work deserves — tracking cases in notebooks, losing revenue to unrecorded procedures, and running an entire practice from memory.
Paper logbooks and spreadsheets make it nearly impossible to audit your work, build a portfolio, or track outcomes over time.
Without a system tracking fees, settlements, and pending payments per hospital, thousands of rupees slip through the cracks every month, unnoticed.
Most healthcare software is built for large corporate hospital systems. Independent practitioners and smaller groups are left to fend for themselves.
SurgMD · flagship product
SurgMD is a mobile-first, desktop-ready, AI-native case logbook and revenue tracker — designed around the reality of busy procedural practice.
Fast entry on the phone the moment you finish. A focused workspace on Mac and Windows for review, search, editing and revenue. Encrypted patient data, multi-hospital support, and AI-assisted logging baked in from day one.
Diagnosis, procedure, photos, anaesthesia, fee — everything you need to log a case in under 60 seconds on iOS or Android.
A native Mac & Windows companion app with a 4-column gallery, search, inline editing, and a full revenue dashboard.
Fees, payments and pending dues per hospital, in one dashboard — donut, monthly bars, per-institution breakdown.
Operating at three institutions? Cases and finances stay separated by hospital but live in one app, on one account.
Patient names are end-to-end encrypted on device. No hospital administrator, no third party, has access to your records.
Sign in from any browser at surgmd.chounda.com to review or bulk-export cases on a computer — no install required.
Voice entry, natural-language case logging, and WhatsApp-based capture are part of SurgMD’s architecture — not an upsell. Speak a case as you walk out of the OT, or message it from your phone’s lock screen, and the structure is filled in for you. Your logbook is ready for how surgical practice will actually work in the years ahead.
NexEMR Lite · now live
NexEMR Lite is our offline-first hospital management system — reception, pharmacy and lab modules built for small hospitals and clinics that don’t have an IT department. It’s lightweight enough to run smoothly on old, low-end computers — no upgrade or new hardware needed.
Each module is a perpetual, per-workstation licence — buy it once and it’s yours. The app runs entirely on local hospital hardware, so it keeps working through power cuts and patchy connections. When modules run on separate computers, an optional Tailscale connection lets pharmacy and lab pull patient and doctor details from reception.
Patient registration, digital billing and receipts at the front desk.
Quick patient lookup, dispensing and stock tracking at the counter.
Test catalogues, sample tracking and result entry, offline.
One payment per workstation, per module — no recurring fees, ever.
No cloud server or continuous internet connection required to run.
Full functionality, no credit card required to start.
Lightweight enough for old, budget computers — no upgrades or new machines required.
Why Chounda is different
Chounda was founded by a practising plastic and reconstructive surgeon — not a startup founder who surveyed doctors, not a PM who read research papers. Someone who operates, bills, follows up, and runs a clinic every single day.
Born in a busy surgical practice with high patient volume, minimal admin support, and no IT team. Designed for the real world, not a demo environment.
Every workflow is shaped around how doctors — surgeons, anaesthetists, interventionalists — actually think, document, and track their work.
We don’t guess at what doctors need. Every pain point was lived before it was built. If a feature doesn’t make a doctor’s day easier, it doesn’t ship.
What’s coming
We’re building a focused ecosystem of tools for modern medical practice. Here’s what’s on the roadmap.
The desktop app are live today. Here’s what’s landing next on phone and desktop.
NexEMR Lite has launched — reception, pharmacy and lab modules for small hospitals and clinics, built to run fully offline with a one-time perpetual licence per workstation.
A lightweight EMR designed for high-volume outpatient clinics — fast patient records, prescriptions, and follow-ups without the enterprise complexity.
Chounda was built by a working surgeon who knows firsthand what it means to practise without enterprise IT, dedicated admin staff, or a corporate procurement budget. That’s exactly why it works for doctors everywhere.
